I turn 26 today!

May 30, 2012

So today is the big 2-6!  How about them apples?  Well if you are truely asking, they are delish.  It feels good to be over the 1/4 of a century year old mark.
I will be heading to my parents house for the day, and will be spending a day and a half there; lots of pictures to be taken, foods to be eaten, and good times to be had, but while I am doing that I thought it would be interesting to give you some facts about the number 26.

26 (twenty-six) is the natural number following 25 and preceding 27.

In mathematics

26 is the only positive integer that is one greater than a square (25 = 5^2) and one less than a cube (27 = 3^3).[1]
A rhombicuboctahedron has twenty-six sides.
When a 3x3x3 cube is made of twenty-seven unit cubes, twenty-six of them are visible parts of the exterior layer of cubes.
There are 26 sporadic groups.

Properties of its positional representation in certain radixes

Twenty-six is a repdigit in base three (222) and in base twelve (22).

There are some pretty cool facts in there! I like that I am the same age as how many bones are in the foot and ankle. :]

I hope to have the best 26 birthday that I can, and I hope you enjoy your day as well. Just remember to have something sweet for me!

Cha- Cha- Cha- Changes!

May 9, 2012

Big news!

I have started to run.  Yes, for me this is awesome because honestly the last time I ran I was still playing softball (maybe 13 or 14).  I am about to be 26 years old at the end of this month.
Now those numbers make me look super lame and out of shape, which I guess I am (out of shape) but I like to think my reasoning for letting go of sports and running is quite reasonable.  Back in the day (Hey! I sound like my father) I played softball, basketball, kids games that involved running.  I like to think I was active enough, but over that time period when my bones were still forming their solidity I put so much pressure on my heels that I acquired "bone spurs".  These weren't really minor spurs (or cracks) in my heels though.  The doctor, who provided the x-rays, told my family that if I didn't lay off of the sports my heels would crack in half and then I would have my heels bolted back together.  I wish I had a picture to show you what I mean, but lets just say it would have been terribly painful, and I wouldn't have been walking for a long time.  So naturally I listened to the doctor, quit all sports, and sadly other physical activities.  WOMP WOMP!!   Huge fail on my part because after leaving sports I realized how much I enjoy team work, even though I tend to be a solitary figure.  But
I have seen the error of my ways and distressed bones and I am making a comeback!
Just recently (I don't know if I mentioned it here on this blog or on my tumblr - check personal tags) I posted about how a goal of this year was to  get into a 2-piece bikini by the summer-time.  Not that a 2-piece has anything to do with team sports, but it does have to do with being in good shape.  Anyway, Hallelujah I remembered when I did (the last week of April)  because I really wanted to make that goal happen this year.  I started exercising: walking 3-4 miles a day.  Yeah I thought that was good.  Now I am lifting weights (a 50 oz bottle of water) during my walks.  I gotta get that arm-work in at some point, and I am terrible about lifting weights at my house; it just doesn't happen, in fact, I hate lifting weights.  So I am walking and lifting weights at the same time.  I have been doing the walking for about 3 weeks now, 4-5 days a week, and it is working out awesomely.  I have already had to buy a size down in tee-shirts (L), a size down in pants (juniors 16)  even my undies are getting loose.  Even after just a few days of new clothes they are already to big. How awesome is that!!!  Super cool I say.  And to add on top of the pile of awesomeness that I am doing for myself, the past  3 days I have been adding jogging into my workout.  A little at a time.  Today I probably ran (altogether) 8 city blocks + the rest of my walk and arm work, and surprisingly, my heels don't hurt one single bit.  (I run through a part of Savannah called Ardsley Park - really nice area and safe too!)  Now I figure my heels aren't hurting yet because of the fact that I am doing little bits of running at a time, but either way it rocks because my heels are my main concern when it comes to jogging/running.

So soon I will be a full blown runner, and I can't wait!  I can't wait to run around the city in my work out clothes, and then short shorts and a small sports bra, sweating my ass off.

Goals, Goals, Goals!  Who knew that they could be so motivating, but I guess you have to be ready for the journey as well.  Life is but a journey anyway.

I plan on documenting my physical changes with pictures.  I am about 3 weeks in and haven't started yet, but I figure this coming week I will start.  This gives me the chance to get some initial change in so that you can see the different immediately.  This project will also be good for me to look back on in the future.

What is something that you are starting to do for yourself?
